How to check out advancements
To check out advancements you either need to use the chat command showed on the screenshot or craft an Advancements Book.
The other difference is that they are exclusive to the world you're playing in instead of being global like achievements. Advancements serve more as an in-game guide through the game. Some advancements are very hard to get and can be a sign of prestige among players if you earn them fairly.
Personally, I'm more of an advancements guy, just because I'm used to them from my time playing Java Edition. But if you've never dealt with this system, I highly advise you to try it out.
